Directional Help?

Post by Rdinatal »

Got to the directionals today as the pilot light was not on, no flashing.

First checked for shorts by removing all the bulbs, no shorts. Put the parking lights bulbs in and all worked.

Put the front directional bulbs in and jumped the 24v and return wires at flasher box connector (no box). The pilot light came on, bad box.
Replaced the box with a Napa EG-22, 24v 2 terminal flasher. Flashing! The front directional function as expected.

Put in the rear bulbs. The right functions but...
When the left is used both rear (L&R) flash!?!?

Any ideas???

The only reliable mil-spec switch handle is made by Nartron. :D

Sorry, but the one you have will fail at it's first opportunity. :(

While not good news, it seems the most likely culprit. I think there's an internal short to the right light when the left is on.

If you disassemble it after failure, you'll find the chinchyest contacts and bronze spring arrangement. And most of those handles are knock-offs from China, they even copy the data plate pretty good.

Driving M37's for over half a century, one learns a few things...

Going to ohm it out first, then take it apart to inspect.

If it's bad as suspected then it will be replaced with a Signal-Stat 900.

The internals of the signal control were trashed. Have a new Signal-Stat 900 on order. Should be here on Sunday.
