Distributor 180 out

Post by hndrsonj »

So I have a rebuilt and a NOS military distributor. I had the rebuilt one in but it isn't advancing, so I removed it and put in the NOS one. It is now 180 out. I figured the easiest thing was to just change the position if #1 by rerouting plug wires but the #6 is about 1" too short to do that. I really don't want to mess with the oil pump; how hard is it to change the distributor shaft so it's 180 out so it goes back in without pulling the pump?

You shouldn't be able to. It's supposed to be indexed.
The rebuild probably isn't advancing because it is assembled incorrectly.

I talked with Matt at VPW. Going to switch the cam on the NOS distributor to 180 out and it should drop in.
