My 63 B1 still has flakes of the original OD green on it.

I’ve heard from several sources the engines were Chrysler Silver when they left the factory.

Indeed it was silver out from factory.
I’ve read in the MOPAR forum that the color dulls over time and acquires a pearly tone.
Sounds neat, but I prefer OD.

Depot rebuilds were OD green.

A silver is the original engine, I've never seen one from the military with a rebuild tag on a silver. I have seen silvers in M37's and M43's with low miles.

Somewheres around here I have an old Chrysler DOD document showing engine overhauls recommended at 15,000 mi, due to long run times at governed speed.
