SNOW ON THE WAY...

Post by Cal_Gary »

Howdy All,
8 to 16 inches predicted here in the Wasatch Mountains over the next 2 days. While I haven't chained up yet I may still get out and exercise the M37-will grab some pix if I do!
More to follow,
Gary

Gary or anyone, is there anything anywhere showing original military tire chains, and chain tighteners for our trucks?

Hi Dana,
I got my chains from Vintage Power Wagons. I wouldn't call them "military grade" by any means but they beat the chainless NDT in snow by a large margin. We have a half-foot of snow right now and it's dumping off and on all night, so I plan to chain up and take a spin tomorrow.

I came across a set of heavy duty truck type chain tighteners that would look good on my truck. They have heavy springs incorporated in the assembly for each wheel. I don't have a picture of them at this point. I have them glass bead blasted and hope to paint them shortly. I'm guessing tire chains are more what was available where they might have been needed, and may not have had military spec's associated as a commonly supplied item. Certainly not a common part of a Parade Ready Rig - LOL

Well this storm didn't warrant an M37 trip but there's another one or two on the way-more to follow.

The winter is still young, Gary! I don't plan on having a romp in the snow here in Indiana until January or February.

Chained up today-ready as I can be! This is supposed to be a quick-hitter with 10-20 inches in just a few hours, then sweeping down toward DCook and our other Durango, CO members :)

Still not enough snow for a trip; fortunately it's not yet Winter so I'll have ample opportunities down the road, and will start a new thread at that time.

Hi Gary,

This year I might get the opportunity to play in the snow since I gave up plowing and salting for the local village. We look forward to seeing your pictures.

We've only had a couple of minor dustings of snow here, yesterday they forecast 4-5 inches but we got just shy of 2 inches and then the rain started.

Tomorrow I hope. I've had to move so much snow I've had no desire to take out the truck.
