Trouble getting wood in bed

Post by ez8 »

Having some trouble with mounting wood slats to the rear side stakes.

3 stakes per side, 2 long and 1 short. Short one goes in the middle on account of the wheel arch, dealer's choice on the two long ones as they are the same size.
However, the rear-most stake is always 1/2" higher than the others on both sides of the truck. Looking into the slot, there does not appear to be any obstruction.
What am I missing?

I was really wondering when I read the title of this thread... was going to suggest asking your doctor for a prescription for Viagra.

The truck has a bit of a rake to it where the rear is usually higher. Often over time the springs sag and this can be less apparent.. are you taking this into account? Sorry if this is rather obvious advice.
My only other advice is to measure the depth of the pockets and see if there’s anything causing the rear to hang up.
Good luck!

I'm not sure the reason, but I measured the depth of the slots last night and the middle slot on both sides is a full 1/2" deeper than the outer most slots after accounting for stake length. No obstructions in the slots, just lower. Well, the problem is solved, I made a spacer out of some scrap wood and evened things out.

Weird.
