Redi-sleeve install? Hubs inner grease seal

Post by RedUtilityTruck »

I am stumped by how to drive the redi-sleeve into place on the rear axle. I've tried exhaust tubing, plumbing supplies, and the shop vac. Nothing has the right diameter "pipe" to do a good job.

What have you used?

I thought Redi-sleeves came with the correct "driver', and one then used some sort of hammer or the like to drive them in. Did your sleeves come without the second part?

Are you talking about to push it over the spindle? I cut the center out of the metal install tool that came with the sleeve. So the install tool would slip over the spindle and still have some of the edge of the face of the tool to push against.

Then I took the metal install tool to Home Depot and played with PVC fittings and lengths of pipe until I got a combo I could glue together and slip over the spindle and line up with the install tool. After that it was slide the sleeve on, then the install tool, then hold the PVC tool on it and bang with a plastic hammer.

Yes I have been trying to figure out how to install the redi sleeve over the spindle. I will proceed with cutting out the center of the supplied installation "tool" and work from there.

Thanks Guys.

Red Utility,

Am I missing something here? It sounds like you are trying to install a sleeve onto the actual axle shaft?

The speedi- sleeve for the rear axle seal goes on the hub nut flange that contacts the lip of the seal plate. The driver that came with the speedi sleeve whether a SKF or National brand is more than ample to install this. I am not sure what you mean by "over the spindle" ? Is your hub/ axle set up not the Dodge OEM?

At the base of this rear axle spindle you can see the sleeve I had to install so that seal on the back of the hub will seal.
