Oil Filter Housing Gasket

Post by Sal »

Does anyone have a part number for a thicker Oil Filter Housing Gasket. I'm having trouble with the thin one that comes with the Wix 51100 filter . I tighten down the cover and I'm still getting some seepage.

Sal, I don't know about a thicker gasket, the ones that come in my NAPA Gold oil filters work fine for me. I just changed my oil and filter two days ago. Be sure and use the short spring that presses the filter down for a good seal inside the canister. You might try sourcing a different filter and it may have a better gasket, The filter can and top is pretty thick metal, so I don't know how one could be warped. Are you leaking around the top or from top bolt? NV

I've been using A Wix 51100 filter right along and this is the first time I have seen seepage around the top of the Filter housing . I used the gasket that came with the filter it seemed a little thin at the time but never had trouble with it before. I was just wondering if anyone knew of a gasket that was made out of a little thicker material.

I put a liberal coating of grease on my gasket, both sides. No leakage. Maybe yours is just an old hardened gasket. In a pinch, maybe use two of your "thinner" gaskets?

Hope you get your seepage fixed, I hate an oily engine. NV
