Bumper lettering and stenciling

Post by Cliff »

Can anyone please tell me who to communicate with about the proper bumper lettering and numbering on my M-37 that will identify the unit I was attached to when I served in the army in the mid 60’s . Since I don’t know what unit my truck was actually with I want it to be a tribute to my old unit. I served with the 7th Evac Hospital, 31st Medical Group, 7th Army in Darmstadt Germany. How would that be shown on the bumper and who can I get the stencils from? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Looking at the truck from the front from left to right (Passengers side to drivers side) 7A 31MG on the left and 7 EVAC on the right. One variation might be 31 MED instead of 31MG. Or depending on how the unit was it could be 31 MED 7 EVAC on left and HHQ or HQ on the right. If your Hospital was broken down into Companies than you would be 31 MED 7 EVAC and then the company letter on the right along with the vehicle number in order of road march. Example A-12 (Alpha Company vehicle #12)

I would recommend doing a google search for images of the unit and see if you can find any pics to support what I've told you. My information is just based on Army practices so your mileage may vary.

Our division Med units used "MED" in 1977-never seen a bumper with MG on it.
Rick Larsen stencils should be able to set you up with correct font, etc.

I wanted to update this post. I finally ordered a set of stencils for my M37. I tried to get them from Vintage Power Wagons but they said their supplier had shut down and they don’t have a replacement supplier. So I went on the internet to see what I could find. I found out that Larsen had shut down with no assurance of reopening. Larsen seemed to be the main source for military stencils and I assume that is who VPW had supply their stencils. I found a company In Michigan that I ordered from and the product and service was great. It is Delta Team Decals. Dave Schwarz is the owner. Delta Team does both decals and Paint Masks. I ordered Paint Masks and they worked great. It was $85.00 for every stencil ever used on the M37 and that included shipping. You can check him out at deltateamdecals.com. His email address is dave@deltateamdecals.com. His phone number is 231 923 6203.

While it is great to retain and honor the original identity under which a vehicle served, having your unit ID on your own truck is Awesome!

Dave at Delta Team is a stand up guy and a fellow MV owner having both and M37 and M715 as well as two M725 meat wagons. It looks like your stencils came out great.
