self etch primer

Hello All...
Anyone have any experience with self-etching primer. I am sandblasting my rig a panal at a time and want to use the self-etch on the bare metal before a filler primer. However, in reading through the MSDS and TDS sheets, I am a little concerned about spraying it in my garage... I know the sheets are extreme, but don't want to blow my house up either... Any info would be helpful.

Curious too, more from a functional standpoint. I understand you can’t Bondo over acid etch but other than that, is it good to stop flash rust? I’m not going to mix a two- part primer for every little part I manage to strip.

I use Ospho metal rust protection/prevention on bare metal after de-rusting or scraping or paint removal, it is like water, clear, and inexpensive by the quart, wipe it on, then wipe off, or let seep into metal seams, then just paint over it after letting it dry or cure or whatever it does overnight. It seems to work fine over the areas where I din't remove the old paint to the bare metal. It doesn't leave the white powdery dust that other products do, and isn't washed off after doing its thing. I drip some Ospho into cracks and seams and such. I don't know about Bondo afterwards, but I is some sort of acid, and promotes adhesion and lessens the chance of little specks of rust left behind continue to rust. I have also used Rust-Blast and other rest conversion and prevention products from KBS Coatings, they have all sorts of information and products. I use their spray wax products on places I just can't reach, like under my dash and inside my doors. I sprayed red Rustoleum overt my prepped metal, then my Gillespie paint over all that. So far, great adhesion.
