plastic fade fix

i got some military taillights from my grandpa (m35 style) the lenses were faded and i wanted new lenses
but I'm too cheap to buy them .a while ago a guy was telling me that mosquito spray old clean up faded plastic

so i tried it and it worked excellent
i used some spray that was 99 percent deet and my taillights look like new

i saved my self 35 to 45 bucks

i just thought i'd share this

Hi Travis,

What Just is alluding to is that bug spray (Deet) makes the plastic lenses clear by actually melting the plastic, not by polishing it (which lasts much longer). The oil in the Deet fills in the low spots while the Deet itself melts the high spots of the plastic to make the lenses look clearer. Once the Deet washes off the cloudiness will return. When that happens try using toothpaste to polish the lenses. You can also buy a headlight restorer kit at Walmart, which is just different grades of compound that does the same thing as the toothpaste. You can find those kits for a few bucks now-a-days..........or just steal your girlfriend's toothpaste when she's not looking. Just don't get caught using her brush to clean your lenses. Don't ask...........just trust me on that one.

Same thing as the old "last chance to get your data" trick of putting thin cooking or mineral oil on your scratched Data CD. It works for a bit. Messes up the poor disk drive though.
