M416 Trailer question

Post by carolinamv »

I got my M416 all restored up. I put a new production tail light assembly on the pass side because the one on the trailer was ruined by water. I checked all the wiring to make sure it looks good from the light cord all the way to the tail light and my brake light and turn signal bulb doesn't work at all. Running light works. Everything else works fine on the other side and truck...

Could this be an issue with the new production Chinese made lights? Or am I doing something wrong.

Jay,

Time to break out the multi meter and check for power and if you have a good ground.

Bert,
I have a good ground. I have a working running light but no power to the socket for the bulb that does the brake and turn sig.

Hi Jay,

I would start at the trailer plug and work my way to the rear of the trailer checking each connection for power.

Jay,

So what did you find was the problem in the wiring? I saw in your other thread that it was road worthy.

Time for my 2 cents worth Jay.
I'd check all the connections. Packard or Douglas, sooner or later they all corrode.
Even if one side of your lamp has power it could still be a weak connection.
We have salt and brine, I'm guessing you have humidity?? Regardless, best of luck.
Sounds like your getting close.

I'm pulling it out Saturday and checking the wiring with a multimeter. I pulled it to the show with only the one side working

Does anyone know the number on the wire for the turn signal/brake light on the electrical cord on the trailer? I think I have a cut or corrosion somewhere that goes to that one.. maybe..
