Jay,
I'll ask a buddy of mine, he has one to go with the M37 and radios are a hobby of his. My students got a kick out of it when he brought it by. Seems to have a certain "cool" factor compared to cell phones!

Hi Jay,

I have purchased radios and amps from Pvt. Jarhead's Surplus Stuff, but I just looked and his website seems to FUBAR right now

I buy allot of components and Radios from http://www.murphyjunk.net/ he is a straight shooter and has most everything that you could imagine.

I have purchased various radio parts from. https://www.american-milspec.com/

Hope this helps,

Bert

Andy,
Id like a working radio set I can take out of my truck and toss in another MV or set on a display and use with other guys. It really does make people smile when they see the radios talk to each other. I think my kids will love it too,Jay

Thanks for the two links , I will look on those sites too. Maybe they can put a complete kit together if they don't have one already set up.

I don't want to over do my truck with equipment and I think a PRC 77 back pack radio set up would be ok so I can talk to other guys at shows.

Murphy's got complete radios and antenna listed on the site. They are tested and ready to go.

Hi Andy,

I had my M1009 Radio truck at the Technical College in the town south of us a year or two ago and the younger crowd was slack jawed. I had a great time explaining how the various components worked together and since we were down near Lake Michigan I fired up the PRC119 on the 6 meter band and talked skip to another operator in a different state (no repeater involved).

Bert,
I emailed Murphys and he doesn't have a PRC 25 or 77 complete set up that's ready to go. I'm not in a huge rush but I emailed the 2nd link that was sent to ask them also.

My wife watches my truck like a hawk at shows. Some would only believe what people do when around Military Vehicles, or any classic at a show for that matter.

Bob,

The radio located in ITALY is actually a PRC-2841 with the 25Khz spacing. This feature will be worthless when trying to communicate with another PRC-25 or PRC-77 that will not have the same channel spacing.

The only way that you can tell the difference between a PRC-25 and PRC-77 cannot be done visually since they look identical on the outside.
Here is how you can figure out which one you have:
Remove the battery box to be sure there's not a battery that might damage your DMM
1.disconnect the POWER jumper cap
2.measure the resistance from pin A (ground) and L:
A.)If it is an open circuit then the radio is a PRC-25 (2.5 V battery connection)
B.)If it is about 26 k Ohm the radio is a PRC-77 (150 Hz mute for crypto)

2.measure the resistance between pin A (gnd) and M:
A.)If it is about 89 k Ohms the radio is a PRC-25 (A10 bias)
B.)If it is an open the radio is a PRC-77 (no function)
