Helitool front disc brakes

Post by tomor13 »

Have the disc conversion for front and rear. Rear was a snap. Front the calipers do not fit. As per instructions from a 78 gm 3/4 4x4. The point where the brake line goes in hits the knuckle. Has any one else put one in and encountered this problem? Waiting for helitool to get back to me as well. Figured expertise here would be invaluable.

Do you have the brackets installed so that the caliper is properly clocked?

Yes checked twice. It's in the position so the lower bolt has to squeak by the tie rod nut.

Ah, you are talking about the lower caliper mounting bolt. You have to remove the castle nut and gring a flat on the head to get it to clear, thaa is unless you want to remove the tie-rod.

I'm also unclear exactly what your problem is. Let me say this, it may be your problem. Numerous times we have gotten calipers that had incorrect parts in the box, similar, but none the less wrong for the application. This is why since we are producing our own disc kits for use on our project trucks and for resale, we offer specific instructions to obtain a certain type of caliper. It is from the NAPA premium brake parts line; we have not had this problem of incorrect parts now in several years. Good rule to remember: the frustration endured due to low quality parts is remembered LONG after the joy of a cheap initial price is forgotten.

Fixed the problem. I got the 2WD calipers. Sent back for 4X4 calipers. These fit. I got the c and not k GMC calipers. Assumed (there's that word) The 2500 were 4WD. In the 80's they were C/K and could be either or. Now back to progress on project Mohawk.

Hello, replying an old post.
Could you or someone clarify some Q's plz:

• Which truck are you retrofitting here? I'm
attempting to retrofit a 1968 W300.

• Plz confirm the calipers are 1978 GM 3/4 ton 4x4
"C" style

• what year and make are the rotors?

These brake parts that are pictured here in a prior post fit the flat fender power wagons (WDX, WM300, etc.) some later WC military models, and the military M37 trucks that have the Dodge axles. They are not compatible with the DANA axles that were used on some of the various later models.
