Ever Seen a Recapped NDT?

Post by w30bob »

Hi Guys,

I saw this tire for sale on Epay and didn't think much of it........until I looked closer. It's a recap! I've never seen an NDT recapped, but I guess it makes sense. Look at the sidewall closely....you can see a bit of the original NDT sidewall, then a bunch of horizontal lines....and then the NDT sidewall starts again. And there's also that grove just off center of the tread, but only on one side. Interesting. Have you guys seen lots of these or was it fairly rare to recap a military tire. Did the military use recaps?

thanks,
bob

Had 2 that came on my WC52 from Norway, I have seen a US Military manual that described the process so they must have used recaps at some time. Peace time army= save a buck.

Ive always been told with that groove cut in the tread that's how you can spot a re cap. Ive seen a lot of the on M35A2 trucks.

Yes, recaps were used, but only allowed on rear axles; one of our other companies got failed on an AGI because some knucklehead put a recap on the front axle of a deuce....

I have 4 Jeep size recap tires mounted on M151 rims. I got them cheap to use as roll around wheels for a frame. Alan

I've both 9.00-16 and 11.00-18 military recaps here.

Junk, OK for rolling around in the shop.

I had a re-cap with a 1952 date on it as a spare...ended up giving it away to a friend for his M101 trailer, because the thought of relying on a 60 year old re-cap in an emergency was scary!
