Wittenberg M37 ?

Re: Wittenberg M37 ?
I used to buy a lot of parts from Wittenberg Motor Company back in the day (early to mid '70's). They did a lot of "conversions" or "civilianizing" of military vehicles for the commercial market. They would substitute fiberglass assemblies for metal ones to lighten the vehicle. They would also change engines or other components of the running gear. They specialized in large commercial or foreign customers (large, multi-vehicle orders). They grudgingly suffered fire departments and individual owners buying parts. Old man Wittenberg retired (or died, I think) and the family just sold everything for scrap and liquidated the whole operation for ready cash.
Weyhauser (a large timber company in the Pacific NW) used to buy a lot of their products. They used and abused them in the woods and mountains for logging. You used to occasionally find wrecked ones out in the woods (they just left them where they died or got crushed; sometimes they stripped all the usable parts but not always).
They had one modification I wish I had researched and documented at the time, but I figured they would always be around and I could get the parts or information when I needed it. Well, I was wrong (again), and now I can't find it.
They modified the springs by adding leaves, or I think, a second set of overload springs or maybe combinations of both. They even had sales literature about it explaining the engineering design and calculations. I wish I could find a copy or a set still on a truck out in the woods, but no joy so far.

Re: Wittenberg M37 ?
I missed the third pic in the EPay listing.......pretty much explains it. Not as well as 52 did, but you'll get the gist. Pretty cool....especially the chrome bumpers!
