My truck was pretty much stripped, so I am collecting all those parts.

I see that there is a "throttle cable" on the dash. Is this supposed to work like a cruise control (haha) or what? Is it used to set the idle?

Throttle cable attaches to the throttle linkage-those w/ winch use it for fast idle, etc. when winching, but I've had no reason to use mine (w/o winch).

It was also used to keep up the engine speed when using radio equip. for gen. output, or to bring up speed for a faster warm up in winter. The earliest trucks used a (now hard to find) friction cable just like the choke cable, but most trucks used the t-handle locking type.

Throttle cable and choke cable are straight forward and available. I got mine from John at MWM. Some vehicles have a 3rd hole in that area for fording. Those kits are hard to come by and I would say the cable is impossible to find these days. Being cold here in MI, both function for warm ups.

My choke cable is in the center of the three holes due to the other two being pulled out to the size of a quarter. More welding for me to do.

I'll have some fun like that too. My truck lost its throttle cable and was graciously gifted with an hour meter. That ticks very loudly. Good way to know if the battery cutoff is on or not!
