Hi Ken,

Man, some people want to know ALL the secrets!! This one should be worth a small donation to this site!!

Ok, I went out and took some photos and was surprised by what I found. For the lower portion of the fender the rubber welting is actually installed differently than how it's installed on the panel above the fender. I believe my truck to be 100% original, so I don't doubt what I found.....it's just odd.

I think the last pic shows what I'm talking about best.....truck is on the left, fender on the right.....I'm just pulling the end of the welting out so you can see how it's installed profile-wise. Both sides are the same. The second photo shows pre-made cuts in the welting for bolt clearance I guess.....so it was meant to be installed this way. Like I said....odd, but interesting.

Ok, this just makes it more confusing. I installed my welting with the short end against the filler panels above the fenders. I guess if it looks dumb when I get the fenders on it will be obvious.

Two more, which is right? I just unpacked both of them from the original boxes.

HI 06! Thanks for the photos too!
I did mine a decade ago-"thin" edge down from the support panel to the fender. Here's a photo or two just snapped in my dark garage.

Black Macklinburg-Duncan garage door bottom seal has the same profile, will last forever and never get brittle like the NOS stuff.

Home Despot used to sell it, too.

It fools restoration judges, too.
