GOOD MORNING, I was checking fluid levels the other day and noticed the transmission oil was discolored. My M got wet during Sandy, I changed all the fluids right after, but I guess the transmission needs
another change. My question: how many quarts does the trany take??

Bob my book says 6 to 7 pints . Depending if you have a PTO or not.

If yours has a PTO; you can't drain all the oil because it is the low point and the PTO has no drain plug. You will not get all the old oil/water drained until you remove the PTO and manually clean it. You can drill and tap 1/4" NPT threaded drain hole in the bottom of the PTO housing while you have it off. Next time you will be able to drain it. My suggestion is to get this attended to promptly. Any water will separate and puddle on the bottom, where it will rust gear teeth, shafts, and bearings unmercifully.
The quantity of oil one holds varies, so you can't really say it holds a given amount. The older units are said to hold 10 pints with a PTO, but change orders given in supplement manuals give it as much less. If you fill them to fill plug level, it will escape through the front bearing and into the flywheel housing as there is no oil seal. You should consider it full at approximately 1" below the fill plug opening.
