Pulling apart fuel pumps?

Post by jim lee »

Anyone online today that knows how to get the diaphragm out of a M37 fuel pump? Or diaphragms 'cause there's one on top and bottom.

Thanks!

The M38 fuel pumps were basically the same except for the arm that rides on the cam. Once you get the top and bottom valve assemblys off, the two diaphrams are connected together between them on lever arms coming off the main arm that rides on the camshaft. You have to push down some on the diaphram against the coiled spring under them and rock the slotted diaphram end off the arm. Then they simply come up or off with the spring that is under them. The hard part is putting them back on together. There is a seal that presses in the body under the diaphram that the diaphram shaft slides through. The seal keeps engine crankcase oil from contaminating the diaphram. You can't see a fricking thing when hooking them back up. Alot of trial and error and double checking to make sure they are back on. Have fun. John
