Spare Tire Door Latch PICS NEEDED
I got a favor to ask of anyone with a B1 with the spare door mount. Can you take a picture of the latch on the cab??? A couple of good details? Im trying to get mine back together and maybe I am over engineering this thing but every which way to make sense of it, it comes out spring loaded to what I would think is the open position. To me naturally I would think you would want the notch flat horizontal with spring pressure on the handle.
Ive got it together as the parts book has it but some pics would help out greatly.
BTW, I have a want too....................My corner support bracket for the cab is missing!!!! Its painted and somewhere in my crap. This is the angled bracket that goes from the door post to the panel.

Re: Spare Tire Door Latch PICS NEEDED
Hi Carter. That's exactly how I put it together by using this drawing. Now I am wondering if the drawing is wrong as the spring forces this to rotate the pin to the unlock position. I've rotated the pin 180 degrees and that changes the position all together.
If I has a pic of a working latch, I can figure it out at that point.

Carter, I also have an extra one of those angle brackets if you would like to have it. It has been looking for a new home for quite awhile now. It is well behaved and has never given me any trouble.
Let me know if you would like to adopt it and I'll pack it up and send it off to you.

Re: Spare Tire Door Latch PICS NEEDED
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I just got home after work and seen the pics. At 2:30 am I ran out to the truck and seen right away my error. The cam plate is in the wrong position!! Its 60 deg here so I am half tempted to go out and work on it in my slippers. We will see in a few min, I really could use the relaxation after a long week of work.

Re: Spare Tire Door Latch PICS NEEDED
Latch works great!!!! Got a question. Noting my tire bracket has lots of slop in the hinge bolts. I can only imagine that they wear quick with the tire installed. Anyone try to put bushings in there to take some of it out?? Probably not worth it.

Thank you for the offer, however I do not foresee a need and feel you might want to offer it as available on the Swap Meet section of our forum. Someone here might actually need one and if I adopted52 M-42 wrote:Carter, I also have an extra one of those angle brackets if you would like to have it. Re: Spare Tire Door Latch PICS NEEDED
Happy you were successful and that my pix were helpful. When I installed the hinge bolts slop was present and was able to weld then turn down my worn bolts to size which eliminated the problem and restored the carrier to spec. without looseness. However in hind-sight bushings sound like a better idea. let us know what you decide to do and how it works out.vtdeucedriver wrote:Latch works great!!!! Got a question. Re: Spare Tire Door Latch PICS NEEDED
More good news today as I finally found my support bracket that I needed. Now please tell me why I put this thing on in the firstplace??? What a royal pain in the ass and I don't even have the spare hung yet.

Re: Spare Tire Door Latch PICS NEEDED
Well, I don't know why you are installing / have installed your B-1 Spare Tire Carrier, but the only reason I am even contemplating installing mine is because I need to get the spare tire out of the bed to install all my radios as part of my Battalion Command Truck build. I've tried every which way to avoid moving that spare and there is just no way around it. Even if I managed to find a S-89 Shelter, the tire still has to go on the door.
So, for me, radios made me do it. What is making you do it?

My truck is a 1951 with a long service record as it has all the b-1 goodies. I originally had the spare in the back but I need to put the radios back there and even though the command trucks had em on the seats, I have a EOD truck so I still need to use the bed when hauling ordnance to the range.
What are you using for a mounting plate for the radio tray? Sounds like we are on the same page.

Re: Spare Tire Door Latch PICS NEEDED
I have all the MT-297 mounts with all the re-transmit gear (GRA-6 stuff). I also have the MT-327 mountings to use if I don't want the retransmit capabilities or the additional AM-65/RT-70 units.
I'm trying to set up a A/N GRC-3, -5 & -7 combination system with a A/N GRR-5 entertainment (?) system. This takes up quite a bit of room in the bed when you also have a M-42 set up. So, I'm having to design a custom (special) rack system to get them all in the bed. Lots of switching and antenna sharing involved plus speaker issues (could end up with 7 to 9 separate speakers and 11 antennas if I don't figure out a switching system).
Not much room for a spare tire in the bed in that case. I'm having a hard enough time keeping room for the table and MRE heater in the bed with the radios.
Working all this out keeps me at home and out of the bars though........
