Another battery box ?

Post by Gerry »

They parts list shows cotter pins holding the 2 battery holdown bolts to the tray. Is there a washer between the tray and the Cotter pin?
Thanks,
Gerry

Hi Gerry,

I say no. There were no washers between the cotter pins and the tray on mine when I took it apart. I'm looking for the pic....but haven't found it yet.
Don't see any washers listed in ORD 9 either.....except the washers under the nuts at the other end of the carriage bolt.

bob

Hi Gerry,

I was a bit surprised by the whole arrangement when I took out my battery box, but the only reason for the cotter pins is to prevent the carriage bolt from falling all the way to the floor of the battery box, at which point the bolt won't be long enough to catch the nut on the battery hold-down bracket. So I guess simpler is better. :D

Here's a pic of the carriage bolts we're talking about with the holes for the cotter pins.

regards,
bob

Hi Bob,

Could you post the size and length of these bolts? My truck didn't have a battery box in it when I bought it and I have aquired most of the items needed to install it but need more details.

Thanks,

Bert

Hi Bert,

No problem. I've got to run to work, but when I get back later I'll measure them for you.

Hi Bert,

Sorry it took so long.........I was taking advantage of the bad economy and out doing some Christmas shopping. Every store I went to was empty of people but full of merchandise....that's my kind of shopping.

The pics below show the measured bolts. Bottom line is it's a 3/8 bolt 8.5" long with 1 3/4 of that threaded.

regards,
bob
