Torque Wrench: 250 or 400 ft-lbs?

Post by Elwood »

Time for a new torque wrench. Anyone know what the maximum torque spec is on our M37's (engine, powertrain, axles, etc.)? The Budd lug nut spec is 225 ft-lbs, but maybe there's something higher? The brief chart in Sec. 354 of TM 9-8031-2 doesn't show anything over 160 ft-lbs, but it doesn't list the lug nuts, either.

The largest torque wrench I've had in my box has always been 250 ft-lb, but I'm wondering if I should get something that maxes at 400 ft-lbs... :?:

I'm trying to remember which one is which, but the pinion nut (companion flange) or the flange nut on the T-case is supposed to be 300 ft-lbs.

Thanks for the reply, Warren.

Wow! 300 ft-lbs?! I wonder which nut is spec'd at 300 ft-lbs? The four companion flange nuts (brake output shaft, rear axle output shaft, input shaft, and front axle output shaft) in TM 9-8031-2 (p.507) are all listed at 140 - 160 ft-lbs.

Then it would be the pinion flange nut.
