antenna mount

Post by rtkjmk »

Does anyone know the correct location for the AB243/G mount on the L/S of the bed ? I have a general idea of the location , above the knockout , but does it cover the Bow strap mount ? I want to get some what close BEFORE I start drilling HOLES in my bed . :? bob k

Thank you for the pictures , I just wanted to be sure before I started drilling holes in the bed . I picked up the 3 antenna sections yesterday from one of the people in the club , he has a ton of radio stuff and he is getting out of MV's . He has the whole radio truck set-up , would look good . Possiable future purchase ? thanks bob k :D

There should be knock-outs for 3 of those antenna mounts in your bed already. You should just be able to knock them out and start mounting your antenna brackets. Specific antennas for specific radios go in each location; it all depends on what "family" of radios you are running.

You might want to do a little more research before you randomly start punching holes or mounting antennas.

Just a suggestion. :D

Both of my beds had knock-outs for the wiring but nothing for the actual AB243 bolt holes (6), so I leveled mine up against the bottom-front of the bow strap mount, leaving enough room for the strap to flip up and down properly.

Warren and Gary,

Can you guys snap a picture inside of the truck bed and out when you have a chance? I picked up a mount at Iola and when I looked at the bed sides I only found the knockout for the antenna wires. Which side of the truck bed is yours mounted on? Is there loose strap steel plates mounted on the inside of the bed to make it more rigid?

Mine is on the left side. I'll have to look, but I don't think I can see everything with the armor box in, I think some of that area is behind the armor.

I mounted mine today , just below the strap mount on the left side in front of the wheel opening . You do need the 2 steel plates inside the the bed to stiffen up the mount. I made mine out of 1/4" x 1" steel . Looks like it was always there . :D Bob K

Actually, there are 4 locations on the stock bed for antenna mounts. Basically there is one in each corner (roughly in the corner). My truck has 3 antennas right now and I'll probably add number four when my radio sets are working (I've got almost all the parts for the 3 big A/N GRC old family big sets - the -3, -5, & -7 plus a GRR-5). If anyone needs pictures of locations I can PM pics to email addresses, but I can not get pics to post to this site (Steel Soldiers is no problem - go figure).

Thanks for posting the pictures Gary. It looks to be mounted higher than I thought. I will stare at it more this evening.

52 M42,
Could you post them on the SS site? I will chime in there.

Thanks,

Yeah.... what's with all the difficulty in posting pic's on g741. I can't figure it out.
Tried following the tutorials but after the first sentence or two they're talking in
a language I don't understand.
Sure would be nice if posting pic's was a lot easier. We might see more pic's !
Did I say we might see MORE pic's.
