Hi Guys,
I picked up a Fording Valve at Aberdeen yesterday and was playing with it this morning. It seems stuck and I don't want to force it. I disassembed it a bit and submerged it in Purple Power to soak. I didn't see any warnings about Brass on the Purple Power bottle so I assume it's safe. I'm not familiar with the internals of the fording valve........I assume it's just a ball valve.....but if you have any advice (or warnings) please send them my way.
thanks,
bob

Hi Guys,
I got it. A little (OK, lot) of brake cleaner finally freed it up. I'm guessing the cylindrical thing it was attached to was a PCV valve of sorts....that's free now too. At some point I'll figure out how all this stuff works.

Bob,
Glad to hear that you got it turning freely.

Re: Stuck Fording Valve
Just an FYI on that Donaldson valve.
You want to be sure that valve is always wide open unless you are seriously fording. It will overpressure your crankcase if it "accidentally" gets closed and that will lead to lots of leaks and blown seals.
There are some articles about these valves in PS Magazine (an Army maintenance publication) back in the late 1950's / early 1960's.
