M37 Update

Not sure if I've posted what I've been up to with my M37 since I got it on Sept 6, 2011 so here goes in no particular order:
Mechanical
Replace rear pinion seal
Replace dented rear driveshaft and u-joints
Replace rear output t-case seal
Fix leak from T-case drain plug
Replace radiator, belt and hoses
Install keyed electrical disconnect
Install missing passenger seat latch
re-cover passenger seat
Replace fuel gauge
Install radiator overflow tube (directs overflow down and away)
Install yellow headlights
Tighten T-case mount bolts (and many others!)

Body
Repair rust holes in cowl
Paint body below the windshield (3 cases of rattle cans so far!)
Repaint bridge plate

Thanks, that right front is NOS, virginal and doesn't get any cleaner. I've been told by the seller to take very good care of it or else!

Tell us all about the yellow strip on the hood. Looks pretty cool to me. I'm curious to know if was a miltiary thing
or yur idea. Makes the truck stand out. I like it. Let us know.

The yellow stripe indicates it's an 8th group truck from the Vietnam Era. The CO of the 8th was having trouble spotting his convoys from the air as they were often intermingled with other units and civilian traffic. One of his officers hit upon the idea of painting a yellow stripe on the nose of all the groups trucks, which they did. It worked. Not a Korean War thing, nor Guard units, strickly an 8th Group thing from Nam.

Your truck is missing a couple of things. White stars and bumper markings!

The bumper markings are now on, but the stars and hood numbers have to wait until the paint sets up, with these temps that will be a few months. I'm not going to rush it, even though the bumper paint was over 4 weeks, it was still a little soft.

That is Randolph 24087/24084. It's the Vietnam Era 24087 (which I have been told changed resulting in the modern FS 24087 being lighter, yellowy and brownish compared to what it was in the 60's.) The modern match for 1960's 24087 is 24084. According to Randolph, they make the same color under both FS numbers, so I'm sure I have the correct color for Vietnam.
Be careful when looking at colors on the internet and/or taken by digital cameras. The white balance is hardly ever calibrated, and if it is, different light will render colors differently.
I got my paint from Pete DeBella Jeep Parts in NY, I think he may have an exclusive on the Randolph 24087 rattle cans.
