I have the long term goal of making the change to a 4bt. I need some advice about where to keep an eye out for one at a reasonable price. I remember reading that the Frito chip trucks had them in them but not sure if they were the only source. Just want to keep my eye out for one of those deals too good to pass up.... and know it when I see it. Identification marks etc to look out for or avoid? Going price?
Thanks for any info.
Mark

Re: Where to find 4bt?
Mark, give me a call. I have a customers truck here, (ebay disaster) that he would like to sell that has a chip truck Cummins (non aftercooled 105 HP) and a sm465 transmission in it. He didn't pay attention to my general rule, "if you can't inspect, don't send a check." The truck in general is a really good build candidate, however the Cummins install is very possibly the crappiest repower workmanship I've ever seen. He is interested in selling the whole truck as is. There are some engine issues that need to be checked out closer, but it may be OK with some fairly minor attention; I haven't checked it as yet. If you are interested in the engine only, we might be a taker on the core truck without engine. Possibly you could get the engine you desire, and we could end up with a good core chassis for building. Happy to discuss possibilities with you, I can then check with the owner to see if he may be interested in working a deal of some sort.
If any other reader's have interest, feel free to contact us. The owner really does need to move it.

Re: Where to find 4bt?
We have an all-terrain military forklift at work which has a 4bt cummins in it.
Just an idea, but if you can find a wrecked one or a donor on gsa auctions maybe that'd be a cheaper way to pick one up!

I've discussed this deal with the owner a couple of times; he feels he will be better off paying us to repair a few engine issues and selling the truck as is.topellis wrote:Charles,
