flywheel 6 or 8 bolt ?

Post by Gerry »

I had my engine rebuilt including new crank.(dont have old one any more) The crank has an 8 bolt pattern like I suspected but my flywheel only has 6 and the wont line up. Is it possible my old crank had 6 bolts also or was it just made to fit by drilling. (5 out of 6 match right up and the 6th is very close)?
Thanks,
Gerry

Gerry, I run that 6-hole flywheel set-up on my 8-hole crank. It will fit but only ONE way-you have to keep spinning it around, trying each position. Once you find the right alignment, MARK that sucker on the inside flywheel and the crank so you'll know how to position it next itme.... You will usually find two of the bolts are off-set and won't line up but keep after it and you'll hit the mark.

Gary,
Thanks,
Tried again and got it on the second try. Fresh mind and knowing it would fit made it easy :)
