dodge m37 100 amp rectifiers

hi,does anyone out there know what goes bad in a rectifier ?? how or what fails ??? i dont see any moving parts etc,can they be fixed ??? exactly what fails or wears out ??? thanks to anyone who can or will answer this !!!

The rectifier takes the raw AC (Alternating Current) from the alternator and changes it to DC (Direct Current) for use in your truck. It uses several diodes that only allow current to flow in one direction. The same basic thing a one wire Delco alternator's internal diode trio do for that alternator. Yours is only bigger and runs hotter. Improper electrical connections and/or jump starting cable connections can damage the rectifier as can excessive heat. If you have used your troubleshooting guide and it indicates your rectifier is bad then the only options you have are to replace it or have it repaired. It would take a few hours of typing to explain to you how to open it up and troubleshoot it.

hi and thanks for the reply !! i will opt to just replace it,as far as the explanation i was just curious,it seems just like a series of plate and i couldn't figure out how it goes bad or wears out,again thank you
