Getting back to the M37 project

Post by powerwagontim »

Hi All,
You guys may recall about a year ago, I did all of the body and paint work on my cab, frame, axle housings, fenders etc. etc. Unfortunately, the bay needed to really begin was taken up by a 61 Triumph TR3a that I have been working on for way way way too long. I knew I had to finish the Triumph before moving it out or it would never get done. The last week has seen a huge push, and low and behold, I drove it out of the shop today! whooo hoo!
I will begin the assembly of the M37 soon. Next October is the West Virginia Power Wagon Rally, and it is going to be a Road Rally. My goal is to get it done for that. I am sure I will be asking plenty of questions along the way.
I cant wait to work on a restoration that I actually want to be working on!
Tim

WELCOME BACK FRIEND!!! I AM GLAD THAT THE TIME HAS COME FOR YOUR M37. AS FOR YOUR FUTURE QUESTIONS, I AM SURE THAT WE WILL HAVE THE RIGHT ANSWER EVERY TIME. LOTS OF KNOWLEDGABLE AND EXPERIENCED PEOPLE HERE IN THIS FORUM. ARE YOU GOING TO RESTORE AS AN "AS WAS IN MILITARY" TRUCK OR ARE YOU GOING WITH AN UPGRADED MODERNIZED DAILY DRIVER? :)
LIFE IS SHORT AND ENDS UNEXPECTEDLY. MAKE EVERY MOMENT WORTH REMEMBERING.

There's a West (by God) Virginia power wagon rally? I know the "when" October, but what exact date(s) and where in wild, wonderful, West Virginia is it? Oh and almost forgot, Tim congrats on your TR3 and good luck with your M37. I'm currently working on a Daimler ferret (Mk.1/2) and an M37.

Hi Sotven,
I am going pretty much bone stock. My Power Wagon is pretty heavily modified, I think I will go for simplicity on this one! Strata Blue, but no markings.
Mike,
Next year's West Va Rally is Columbus Day weekend. Every other year it is either a static Rally, with trail rides, or it is a Road Rally, covering a bunch of ground seeing lots of cool sites in West Va. There are several M37s each year, so it isnt just Power Wagons! Hope to see you there next year!

Thanks,
Tim

Sweet!!! I was in your neck of the woods on sat!!!! I was leaf peeping with the M-37 on every back road between Vergenes and shelburne!! I thought I had your address in my backpack, I was going to look you up but I did not have it. In my adventure, I did manage to see a Civy PW, I may go back and take a look at it.:) I will try again some weekend, maybe the snow will hold off a bit longer. Today was nice and I put 40 mi on the 3/4 after work since I left early:)

Hi Jeff,
Bummer, I was working in the shop all weekend! Where did you see the power Wagon? One time I was gassing my Power Wagon up and some teenage kids came up and said "cool truck" We chatted for a bit, and one pipes up, Hey, I know where there 3 or 4 of them sitting out in a field. My ears perked right up, where are they I asked? The kid proceeded to give me directions to my house! Oh well, it was good while it lasted.
Did you go through Monkton?

Hi Jeff,
Was the blue Power Wagon with a dump bed right behind a green steel building? If so, that was my shop! That truck is in a line of Power Wagons and is closest to the road, but there are some trees, so you could easily miss the rest. Or, maybe its another one that I havent spotted.

Was next to a house, did not see any other PW's just a bunch of chevys. I turned around about 2 miles down the road and went by again to see If I could find any more PW's. If there was more than one, I would have stopped.

Tim, Was not you, found your address in my PM box. I did not go that far east into monkton. I dont remember exactly where it was or where I was but I might be able to find it again some time on another PW adventure :D They sure do ride nice on VT backroads!!
I will bring the FEAF truck by to give you some winter time modivation. Maybe you will end up putting some markings on those doors :D
