Possible cylinder down...
I cleaned and re gapped all the plugs, one of the wire ends looked suspect so I cleaned that... I re-fired the truck the cadence seemed a lot better... Currently I am gravity feeding the carb so I don't know if I am starving the truck for fuel or not and that may also have something to do with what I have going on... Might have a little something to do with the timing as well...
So now that I have it started what direction would be the best to go in...

I'd suggest running a compression check on all cylinders. If you have one cylinder not "pulling its weight," it will show up immediately.

Re: Possible cylinder down...
I AGREE WITH LIFER ON THE COMPRESSION CHECK. ALSO, IF YOUR FUEL PUMP WORKS, THEN HOOK THE PUMP TO THE AUXILIARRY TANK AS OPPOSED TO GRAVITY FEEDING, EVEN THOUGH I DO NOT THINK THAT GRAVITY FEEDING WOULD GIVE YOU ISSUES AT IDLE SPEEDS. FINALLY, TIMING IS A BIG PART OF THE EQUATION. AS FAR AS I REMEMBER, THE MANUAL SUGGESTS 2 DEGREES BTDC, HOWEVER I THINK THAT HERE IN THE FORUM SOME PEOPLE HAVE SUGGESTED THAT 4 DEGREES IS BETTER GIVEN MODERN FUELS. I MIGHT BE WRONG ABOUT THIS INFORMATION HOWEVER, BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN LONG TIME SINCE I TIMED MY ENGINE. THE RESULTS AFTER THE TIMING CORRECTION WERE THAT I COULD ACTUALLY DRIVE IN FORTH GEAR.
LIFE IS SHORT AND ENDS UNEXPECTEDLY. MAKE EVERY MOMENT WORTH REMEMBERING.
Re: Possible cylinder down...
I was fooling with the timing the other day and I hit a point that the motor as it idled smoothed out but running back and forth trying to keep fuel in my funnel gravity feed system caused me not to be able to lock it down before it cut out... CUZ (Wes) gave me some info to set the timing by hand and that's what got the truck started so I'll probably have to invest in the timing adapter so I can do it right... but at that point that it smoothed out the engine seemed to just hum there still was a slight hesitation...
So I'll probably spend this week cleaning up my plug cables some more and doing the compression checks and probably ordering a carb rebuild kit... Test that fuel pump and get that hooked back up... Probably vacuum the truck out again... Thought I got it all the first time...
Little stuff so I don't get burned out... but still make some forward progress... Having the motor running is the best motivator for me... I could have done the brakes first but having working brakes is not motivation for me... Now having the motor rolling and the truck rolling... One is then motivated to make it stop... Literally
