exploding shock's!!!!

Post by paul »

frig this morning i replaced the rear shock on the ton truck and one of them exploded in my face, they pack quite a bit of oil and power! it riped the glove from my hand bounced on the ground and stoped about 20 foot from the truck! lucky my face was not in front of it, the nut holding the valve on the stem somehow came loose, this is why when i removed the bottom part it when't rocket on me , there was no way for me to know wath was about to happen, so if you shock become bouncy and show's no sign of leakage beware when you take it off, here are some picture to prove iam telling the truth!

this is where the bottom part stopped

check out the mess of oil everywhere under the truck, if you look carefully behind the spare tire the top portion of the shock is still attached to the truck!

here is the two parts of the shock together

sure wish i had the receipt for that shock because this is a factory defect for sure!

Sounds to me like the internal bypass got plugged up. Not to many exploding shocks out there, thats a good story, and something to keep in mind!

thats the problem with gas charged shocks... gotta be handled like they are welding cylinders, as they are under the same pressures.
