Pics of the USMC M37....

Post by refit1701 »

We settled on $1800 for the truck so I saved $400. It shows a delivery date of 2-28-52.

It was in a junk yard and was a fire truck. I think they just drove it to the junk yard and left it there. The engine oil looks like it was recently changed.

It's not as clean as I thought it was (but what is!) but for a mostly complete truck with only just *some* rust on the cowl, I think it was a good buy. This will be my next project after the AF truck.

The tailgate is nearly perfect and the bed floor only has one small hole in it.

YES, those are dual wheels on the back. It has a custom hardtop on it. I have no idea where it might be from.

It was not easy to take pics since they have junk pushed up around it.

Anyone know what this box is? It's part of the harness.

And a winch too! No radiator, no problem, looks like a good/great candidate for a restore?

This one will definitely be restored. At first I was thinking about the winch moving to my AF truck but then I realized how complete this truck was and changed my mind. I'll finish the AF truck and this one will be scheduled next. At least I got it before it was scrapped.

I thought I posted the link to all the pics we took. Here is the link!

If you use your imagination, you can see that we had an issue or two once we got back to my buddy's house (where I keep my projects).....

Very nice. Hard to see how that truck ended up in a scrap yard. I think its way better than what a lot of us started with!
What are the 2 switches located below the steering column?
Thanks for sharing the pictures.

I haven't been under the dash to figure out those switches. It's possible that they were auxillary lights as the truck was used by a fire department for a while. There is evidence of a roll cage from the front bumper to the rear and there was probably a water tank in it as the hose is still in the bed.

Luckily, they didn't cut any holes in anything.

I think the scrap yard yanked the radiator back when copper was worth more than gold.

The hard top is coming off when the restoration comes.

I checked out your photo album, John, looked pretty soggy but hey, that's "home" to an old M37!

The few days before we went after the truck, that area got 6 inches of rain in one day. I think all but one of the roads into that town were blocked by water. It had only receeded enough to get in to the area when we arrived with the truck.

The trailer is STILL in the pasture as it still too wet to get it out.

Nice pictures.
It brought back memories of past recoveries, not wet enough to look muddy but as soon as you take a truck and trailer out there you wish you hadn't :D
