Slave recepticle lead routing?

Post by DaveO »

Hi all,

How is the hot lead of the slave recepticle routed? Mine was cut off at the back of the plug, so I have nothing to go from. I have found the hole in the frame for the ground, but just about every path I see to the starter looks as though it will interfere with the various clutch or brake linkages.

Thanks!

Dave

There really is no single specific route.

I've seen it routed numerous different ways, even back to the 24-volt positive battery post instead of to the starter switch post. It sounds like you will be replacing the cable anyway, just install one long enough to follow a safe route in such a fashion as to secure and clamp it where ever needed to protect it. We always use wire loom over the positive lead as extra insurance against damage.

Hi Charles,

I'm using an NOS plug, and the cable length actually looks as though it's meant for M37, so I won't need to install a new cable. I think I'll try running it up the top of the frame rail. There may already be some holes for the Adel clamps that are under the mud. I'll keep hunting.

Good tip on the loom. I'll put some spiral wrap on it.

Do you know how to de-pin these plugs? I'm going to have to lengthen the jeep's ground cable.

As always, my thanks...

The detailed instructions are in TM 9-1825E Bendix component repair manual.

Dave
An M37 is not a Jeep. Please don't be offended, but It bothers M37 fans to call them that. They were built by Dodge.

Dave isn't calling the M37 a Jeep. He has a Jeep also, a M38A1 I think it is. I'm sure he was reffering to it.

Just push the pin out using a suitable tool. You will encounter resistance, but it isn't a big deal.

Sorry Dave.
I thought that you were refering to the M37 as a Jeep.

Okay Charles, it's a front release plug. Thanks, got it. I'm off to the welding shop for some 1/0.

Cuz: Hi Wes! Do you have an e-copy of that manual anywhere?

Wow! Yep, that was poorly written. I should have said "lengthen the jeep's ground cable, as well". I also have an M38A1. I'm working on slave recepticles for both rigs at the same time. What, you guys can't read my mind? No worries...

I have been looking for it for several years. I just found an original paper copy in Holland. It devotes 32 pages to cannon plug pins.
