BB38's More Real American Iron

Post by HingsingM37 »

Okay, so what is 53.5 feet long and weighs 66 tons? You guessed it a 14" naval gun  Check out www.pamilmuseum.org
They are restoring two of the original 14" guns from the USS Pennsylvania . These guns were cast in 1919 and 1912 and served on the Pennsylvania until 1945 when she was refitted.
Of this style the only others in exsistence are on the USS Texas and on the Arizona. Extremely fascinating

WOW I had no idea the guns weighed so much. Interesting that the navy even kept the barrels long after the ship was gone. nice article. Now I have another museum to visit when I get back east.
