what else is supposed to be used?
since thats what my papers say is called for
thats what i have been using
Your papers are 60+ years old. Oil specs have changed light years since that time. We have run Amsoil 50 weight long life transmission oil in all our rebuilt transmissions and transfer cases for several years. Great results overall, plus cooler running in warm temps., easier shifting in cold temps. Amsoil is a premium product line, expect to pay more. Be careful if you go with a cheaper, non synthetic oil, remember, premium has its perks; they are the better products, you will reap long term benefits. The few $$ saved on running a cheaper product is not worth the difference in protection or performance of the higher end oils.

If your trans is indeed a 435; you can buy a specific rebuild kit for that one that includes every part you need to put together a first class transmission.

Is the Lucas 50W labeled as being specifically for transmission use, or is it a 50W engine oil? If it does not specify for transmission use, you might best look again at what you put in the gear box. Oil additive packages that are blended in are very different in a transmission specific oil from those blended in an oil designed for engine use. You want to be sure you get the best protection possible, that would be achieved by using a transmission specific oil.
