No it should have had the clear plastic slots on the side like the rest of the instruments if it had the Douglas metal connector. If it came with the Packard rubber connector it may be for a vehicle with a post type dash light. Sometimes in an attempt to make the gauge look better some folks inadvertantly paint over the clear plastic segments in the case.
