Re: New to me '52 M37
The electric fuel pump is staged and waiting to be plumbed in. What's not there is a check valve on the carb side to keep fuel from draining when the filter is changed. The manual ball valve on the tank side was needed as the filter sits 4" lower than the top of the tank.
Since I have a 'decent' pre filter I'm going to delete the in tank filter and run a hose to the tank bottom. The theory is to suck up any junk in the bottom so corrosion won't start. Going to keep the small plastic filter next to the carb as a precaution.

Re: New to me '52 M37
Nice catch. Are you keeping the tires? Seem to be in good shape.

Leopard pattern camo.
Re: New to me '52 M37
Deciding if I should (could) sell the Super Lugs and get the same tires that the truck will eventually have. Low miles as the nubs are almost gone.
The trailer itself is in great shape. The paint is flaking and needs attention along with the wires but the lights work.

Re: New to me '52 M37
What tires are you planning on putting on the truck?

Re: New to me '52 M37
Ah, that could get like religion and politics, varied opinions on this...
I'm looking at 315/75R16 as that size is the closest OD as the OEM size. I've see them on the 6.5" rim and they don't look pinched or rolled.

Re: New to me '52 M37
Thanks. Did I need it? Absolutely not. I just couldn't pass on it. I'm sort of embarrassed on what I paid for it.

Join the club-we've all overpaid for stuff now and then. That's how we learn to find bargains later.

Re: New to me '52 M37
I think he means it was a real bargain; i.e.cheap.

Re: New to me '52 M37
Indeed-I interpreted it on the negative side since I've experienced a few "overpaid" in my life.
Thanks guys!

Re: New to me '52 M37
Started cutting into the original fuel line.
Inspected the sending unit. Found it was open, no change in ohms when moving the float. Replaced, new gasket along with a custom jumper for the different connectors (F to F)
Plan was to replace the pickup filter with a extension to the tank bottom. Since the new primary filter is a removable can the object is to remove any trash from the bottom of the tank. Well, there was no filter. The pickup tube ended 1" above the tank bottom. Added a length of 3/8" fuel hose, double clamps, new gasket. Tank is done, on to the line.
The inside of the tank looks good.
Found that the flared fitting on the pickup was not removable. Some type of solder? So, plan B. Removed the 4ft length of alloy metal line from the tank to a junction. Cut about 3" off the end with the best flare/nut (yeah, another new tool). Attached the new 5/16" line, double clamped, attached to the pickup.
Enough for T-Day eve wrenching.
Next:
- Use some plastic electrical loom as abrasion shield on the fuel line runs.
- Plumb into the filter/pump assembly.
- Run the pump output to the secondary filter up at the carb.
- Wire the pump with a oil pressure relay (no oil pressure = no power to pump).
