Hello Everyone, And here I am having just installed the crank pulley so I can read the timming marks, and now, thanks to you Charles, I shall set it at 4*BTDC. I also have 4:89 gears in my rig and the pick up is , embarrasing...I already put a new fuel ine , fuel pump, and tank fileter in, So I will try to set the timming and hopefully that will make a difference. Hope I dont have what Lifer was talking about. And may I also have a copy of the governer article? Thank You..

In order to set the governor correctly, you'll need a tachometer. A mechanical tach with a rubber tip works well as does an electronic digital type. We have both here, but I'd recommend the economical mechanical type, available at NAPA. If the engine is installed in the truck, park on level ground, unhook the drive shaft from the rear of the transmission & tie it off to the side out of the way & block the wheels. The center of the trans output shaft is drilled, the tach has a rubber tip that will fit that center drilling. Put the trans in 4th gear which is a 1 to 1 ratio. Have an assistant rev up the engine full throttle while you position & hold the tach tip against the shaft getting a reading from the tach. Adjust the governor according to the instructons until all is correct. It's better to adjust until a surge occurs, then do the minor adjustment to tune the surge out, this setting while turning 3,000 to 3,200 RPM is the place to be. Be sure your engine is healthy & capable of turning these RPM's without damage before you attempt the set up. If you aren't sure about general engine condition, doing a compression test prior to the adjustment is recommended. If you find the compression is low, most likely the sluggishness is coming from the engine not being in top condition rather than an incorrect governor adjustment.
