Owl hooting

Post by Nickathome »

Unfortunately where I hunt owl hootin gis out of the question. Every year the night before the woods suddenly come alive with "owls". The turkeys have bccome so oblivious to owl hoots that you rarely will get a response when using an owl hooter. I actually have had better luck with a crow or duck call(there are two manmade lakes in this place). I think i am just going to head up the trail until I get ot a spot where I know I have heard birds before and sit there until I hear one gobble, then will go after him.

I used to goose hunt and have had some luck using my goose call. The place that I used to hunt I never called to locate birds. If they were roosting on the property the were always on the same ridge. I just had to find out where on the ridge they were and set up. I hope the turkeys wake up the people who move in the houses that are going to be built.
8 days left and counting for me!

Turkeys

Post by Nickathome »

Gerry;

We heard three gobblers openeing day high up on the ridge above us, but they were too far away to call down to our area. I had my father in law with me and he isn't into walkng so we pretty much stayed in one spot all morning. saw one hen bird on our walk out of the woods, thats pretty muc hit. Haven't had the time to go back up, and doubt I will as I have lots to do around the house. I find it tough to get motivated enough to make the trip up when I know I have house chores to do. I was going to go this past Sat but didn't because I didn't want to miss my kid's soccer games two weeks in a row. With the upcoming rally in Aberdeen I haven't given much more thought to going hunting.
