Guess I need to go look. Would have sworn that was a straight piece but it's been a while since I've pulled a splash shield.

My fenders were under some compression as well; they basically seem to "flatten" out a little if they are sitting for a while. The bottom hole on the front of my fender mount is open on the bottom (think upside-down "U" shape) and makes putting the fenders on really easy. Just start the lower bolt in the rad support and hook the fender over it and then loosely tighten the bolt to help hold the fender up. Then I put the rear support bolts in and go from there, pushing and pulling as needed.

I may have time tomorrow night to give it a try again. I've got to paint a bunch of bolts first though.
