I understand the point you were making, I was just saying it hasn't worked for pulling the pinion seals. Have you pulled pinion seals from a M37 differential using it? It may work on seals in other applications, but we have much more advanced seal pullers that work first time, every time, and are much easier and faster to use; that being said, I haven't tried it on other types of seals, so I have no comment about how effective it may or may not be when used for other purposes. Do you need another puller, now that I've been honest, and told you it doesn't work, I'm happy to let you have it for what I paid for it if you would like it, just taking up space in the tool box here.

Do you really think I'm that slow!

Why would I buy a second puller to match one I already have?

Which puller I use depends a lot on how much room I have to work in. I have slide type pullers that work as well or even better.

Lots of times people who have had good luck with a particular tool like having a spare. I have 2 or more of several specialty items. I was just offering it as a bargain to you if you had interest. If you don't that's ok.

Charles,
I've found the same thing. I have the one in the picture and it doesn't work on the pinion nor T-case output seals. I'd be interested to know the make and model of the puller you use (the one that works!) as it appears it will be getting regular use in the future.

I guess we need Cuz's magical version, as he's the only person I've ever heard say that puller worked. I've never seen any puller that works on this particular pinion seal, like I've posted here before, you remove pinion seals any which way you can. A pry type puller works best on t/case seals if replacing while on the truck, we have one that is adjustable for various angles of attack which makes it useful in many different applications, it's available at CarQuest at a reasonable price, has a pin lock system to change the head angle. Works on the same principle as a claw hammer pulling a nail. Probably available from other outlets also, however I've only seen the adjustable version at CarQuest.

If the t/case will be on the bench for a rebuild, no seal puller is needed except for shifter shaft seals, as the rest are easily removed during normal disassembly.

Looks similar to the one pictured, but ours is a good bit heavier tool than that one. We've had ours several years though, the lighter version may have taken center stage now.

I have those hook pullers in my boxes at the shop, in the trailer and at the house. Can't beat them for the investment.

They are used in my aircraft shop, my mobile aircraft maintenance trailer and I use them at home a lot. They are like a scratch awl, or hose clamp plier. Very common and one with three places of work needs 3.

The puller discussed earlier is only at my home shop. As are most other high dollar, or special purpose tools not related to aircraft work. Yes I have similar pullers in the other two boxes but they are the snap-on sets that handle various size and shape jobs. And after they are used for a few years each one harbors a wee bit of that MAGIC that seems to fascinate so many folks!!

Well the guys tell me that the puller in question got broke and was thrown in the scrap bin a while back. Actually it should have been there long before it was in my opinion, certainly no great loss as it didn't work on anything we ever attempted to use it for, a worthless piece is the truth of it.
