Maybe not. Perhaps they were more security conscious than we were. ;)

Did you mean bazookas? ;)
Did the Canadian Forces do anything like that? I'm worndering if it was some type of mount for holding a moving target?
Again with the security awareness thing, ;)

You'll notice that I'm being a little facetious here, my good man! Feel free to pick on me if you "catch me" at something. :D

I have a M37CND and it doesn't have the brackets. The lower bracket, it has a tube under the bolt and washer,is that so something will go down into that?

No, it appears to be a solid setup. As I said, with the nut removed, I gently pressured it with a BFH to move, but no go; so its either rusted right in there, or not designed to come apart that way. The target idea seems interesting, but I would suspect to find at least one errant bullet hole, and there are none, no dents, dings, scuffs, ricochette's or anything else of the sort.

I had a thought, could they be for an auxiliary lighting rig? Or perhaps something from of the telephone trucks?

As for our security, its pretty tight; 10000 miles of undefended border bellow and above us, the submarine's in the West Edmonton Mall are technologically more advanced than the flaming diesel subs we got from the British, all our warships are on the east coast leaving the west open for migrant ships, and we didn't even know we had a secret spy agency until the late 80's (CSIS - sp.?). That and its too bloody cold up here for film too consistently work, so thats a bit of a crap shoot for spy's as well...
