Have you check for the ohm resistance in the coil? I have found 6 to 6.5 ohms to be good and also are the cooling lines hooked up to the distributor. Check the distributor shaft to make sure the bushings are not worn out. NAPA carries points and condensers. And have you checked the incoming voltage?
I had gone through this same concern a few weeks ago and had several different things going on before it was all sorted out.
you might try looking at some older posts for the same concers in the tech section.
