Carter,
It looks like Red trucks are all the rage right now.......I just picked one up a few weeks ago. I'll be driving mine around until this fall when I'll start the restoration. Looks like you have a good candidate to work with.

Hadn't thought about that, I did a CJ2A jeep in that years ago that looked real good. So it's one vote for camo. Good idea!
Had an M37 I painted desert tan in the early 70s long before the desert war that now has produced a lot of simular paint schemes.

MERC camo might be the answer. Thanks

That's the problem, no data plates, in fact no glove box door either

so that's why the G741 members poll. It won't be yellow OR pink but it just cccured to me that I could do a black and white checkerboard pattern like a flightline "Follow Me" jeep. Wouldn't that attract attention. That would be something you don't see everyday, not that most folks see M37s everyday.

I had first thought about just touching up the red but I am just not sure I want to do that as they still look like fire trucks. If I had the tank, pumps and all the other firefighting stuff that would be different and it would stay that way as a reminder what a lot of these rigs did after leaving military life. I've got a long way to go with bunches of work to do before I need to decide what to paint it.

I don't know about the other services, but the "Follow Me" checkerboard on AF vehicles was done on a 4' x 8' sheet of plywood bolted/screwed to uprights in the front stake pockets on pickup trucks. 4-wheel drive not usually being necessary on flightlines, these were usually civvy-style trucks, but if you want to do it with an M37, go for it.

Here's another idea I've been kicking around for a bit...paint the whole truck white and put the Air America logo on the doors. Guaranteed not to be too many of those around.

What's the Air America logo look like?

The city of Havre de Grace had several of them in white and they looked sharp, I had a chance to bid on one but I was busy restoring my other one and had no money then.

If you "google" Air America, you'll find a number of sites, several of which show their logo. Basically, it's a squared off shield, red at the top, blue at the bottom, and white in the middle with "Air America" on the white band, and the shield superimposed over a pair of vertical wings.[/img][/url]

I found this Lifer, white is an easy color to paint and I'm sure Rick Larsen could do the logo. Great idea. thanks.

Yep! That's the pic I tried to post. It would definately be "different." You'll have tons of people asking you what "Air America" is/was if you paint it that way and take it to shows.

Different is putting it mildly, extremely unusual is another way of saying no one else has one.

I have a long way to go before that but I think that's what I'll do Charlie, great idea
