Well, it should be, anyway. ;)

It's the thread from the dead!

Well, our truck has the blocks. Seems that they may be there to alter the pedal's location relative to the driver, more legroom?????? The also have to large rubber blocks on them, is this normal?

We are at the point where we are going to be setting up the master cylinder push rod length and it would be nice to do this correctly once.

No they are not supposed to be there; it's a quick fix in the eyes of some. It is a way to make something happen because they either lack the skill or just don't want to do what it takes to make it right. SO, if you want to do it correctly once; there is but one way; trash the blocks and get started.

Hi Guys,

This reborn post is very timely.....I picked up a set of floorboards a few weeks ago for cheap, but never saw the underside until they arrived. The driver's side has these blocks you guys are talking about. So probably a pretty common "fix". I see no one ever did post a pic of what we're talking about, so here's one so everyone can see the blocks.

Bob,
That looks familiar! The rubber pads on mine appear to be some form of molded production part unlike the special ones you have. This is why I'm curious about this.

Charles,
Just so I understand this, the brake and clutch pedal travel towards the driver is to be limited by striking the floor plate at the cast step in the respective pedal's arm. No rubber pads, no wood blocks, no nothing! The only reason that I can see to use them is to prevent metal to metal contact and change the initial angle of the pedal relative to the driver's foot. They are a bit close to vertical :)!

Thanks guys, we'll be playing with this over the next few days as we set up the brakes.

Rubber "blocks" I found on the site.
I found this in one of Brett's posts. These are identical to the rubber blocks on our truck.

Hi Andy,

My blocks are wood, with what looks like a piece of rubber mud flap on top. Weird. I didn't know what to make of them..........until I read this post!! :D

thanks,

The sheet metal area on the floor panel that the pedal stop hits is most times worn away allowing the pedal to come too high. In this case, metal must be welded back onto the floor panel so all comes back to the correct perspective. The draft pad stops metal to metal contact when it is installed correctly on the pedal shaft.

Charles,
Got it. The draft pads in our truck are long gone, but the floor's edges around the pedal arm are still intact. I suspect with a little adjustment we'll get it all dialed in. Thanks for the help!

Hi Guys,

Charles, I'm sure you're right about them using these blocks when the floor board has worn away, but that's not the case with mine. Floor boards are intact. So I'm guessing they added the blocks to accommodate tall drivers??? I really don't know. I doubt the square nuts in my first pic are Army issue, but at least they used round head bolts so their boots wouldn't get caught on them!!!

I can see wear in the notch where the stop on the pedal shaft contacts the panel in your picture; you might better measure a little closer; doesn't take much to make the difference.

Bob,

The edge of the slot where the pedal arm bumps, looks to be peened outward into the cab.
