More pics. The hub is steel, with a cap of aluminum. The shaft has a spring clip in the notch at the hub end.

Those 7/16" washers on the dash...are they split lock washers or something else? I'm still figuring out what to do now that the periphery washers are unobtainium.

Those are thick grade 8 flat washers. I didn't use split lockwashers, I relied on locknuts and locktite where necessary. I used a few mars washers (what we called them years ago- don't know why) on the smaller bolts(like on the door).greeno wrote:Those 7/16" washers on the dash...are they split lock washers or something else? It is alive! drove it a couple of miles, nothing fell off- or drained out! everything seems well so far, having some TC shifter issues-probably adjustment issues.

Looking great!
I'm curious: was there a problem with your old axles, or were you just worried about them for the future?

Re: 1954 M37 rebuild thread
with the 375 HP hemi I figured that I maybe needed something stronger, having heard so many stories of the oem ones breaking- with the stock driveline. Granted, I have heard of the people who have never had a problem. For me it was just good insurance. The axles I removed were perfectly fine.John Mc wrote:Looking great!

Makes sense. I missed the part about the new engine.
