Water Pump Rebuild Source?

Post by knattrass »

We took the pump off, visual inspection shows no problems. I ordered a new pump and wondered if someone had a recommended rebuild source for water pumps?

If it looks fine, why rebuild it or replace it? Waste of money there. Slap some new gaskets on there, clean it up and paint it and your set!

Dang! Nice looking water pump. What's the valve for on the bypass elbow (on the top of the pump, I think that's the right name)? Mine doesn't have one, although the previous owner wasn't exactly the best mechanic.

The valve is there to allow you to plumb in a hot water heater if you want. There's a pipe plug at the back of the head where you can install a nipple for the heater's return hose.

Nice looking pump!

Just a note about the hot water heater. The shut of valve on the pump is the return line hook-up and the pipe plug on the rear of the passenger side of the head (marked 'HEATER') is the outlet or input to the heater core. Hotter water from this point.

Hal - thanks for the memory jog! I was reading the installation manual and could not remember if it highlighted the fact to pay attention to how you plumb the core!! I'm still a few months away from having the fenders back on...ugh!

Where did you get this water pump? Did it include the fittings you show in the picture?

I'm getting my block back from the machine shop shortly, so need to figure out my accessories.

Looks can be deceiving! If the pump is leaking around the shaft, and they all will eventually, just cleaning it up and replacing the gaskets won't do the job. It'll just delay the inevitable and make him do the job twice.

Jeez-now I see what's wrong with MY water pump: the hackers welded a 90 degree piece of tubing where the two-bolt top flange sits, and I don't even see the flange on my pump.

In the middle of my Painless wiring install and I am still amazed at the creativity some people come up with in order to do band-aid fixes. I still have the steering support plate with the muffler clamp welded into it to support the steering column-what next???!!!

We use NAPA rebuild & return service for such items, usually a 2 week turn around time.
