Hey guys how hard is it to remove a transmission on one of these M37's? Not sure yet but I may need to put i a new clutch plate and pressure plate and throw out bearing.

Very easy. Pull the floorboard, drop the tranny end of the prop shaft and swing it to the side, (detach the PTO shifter and shaft if you have the PTO), remove the tranny shifter, the three 2x4/hi-lo shifter bolts, and the 4 mount bolts. Use a hoist, tranny jack, or come-along to lower it as it is pretty heavy.

Ok once you get the tranny down the bell housing still needs to come out to do the clutch work right?? I have not looked under there in quite a while but if I remember right there are mounting brackets on that housing????? I have a transmission jack but not so sure it will reach that high. I do have an engine hoist jack that I suppose could be used if I take the top off.Cal_Gary wrote:Very easy. I know John at Midwest Military has the clutch kits, and I think he will lone you a pilot tool to align everything.

You don't have to remove bell housing.
Clutch will drop out the bottom, as will the flywheel if you go that far.

here is a pic of the bell housing on a 230, in the truck. You can see how you can reach the innards. I had a machine shop cut two long bolts to guide my transmission onto the bell housing. I actually mounted my trans onto the engine with it sitting on a wooden stand. Even with using a plastic pilot bushing, guide, it was difficult to get my trans to slip into the pilot bearing. I almost gave up for awhile.
