Idle Speed Adjustment

Post by delta31 »

Where is the adjustment for the idle speed? I have adjusted the the idle mixture screw at the base of the carb to get the best vacuum but the engine is idling at about 900 RPMs and I would like to slow that a bit.
On our truck the rod connected to the bell crank on the carb has what looks like a barrel nut but it is welded to the rod. Is the idle speed adjustment part of this rod?
IF some one could post a photo of where the idle speed adjustment should be that would be very helpful.
Thanks

Page 198 of Technical manual TM 9-8030 has a picture showing the Idle Speed adjusting screw.

I'd send you a screen shot, but in the digital copy I have of that manual, the picture is too "muddy" to see.

ok, a pic of my set-up. I have added an additional throttle return spring.
to set the idle, there is a small slot headed screw with a skinny flat head screwdriver. Mine idles most smoothly at about 750 or so rpm. NV
