Cowl vent gasket replacement

Post by Halfdunn »

Hi all,

Looking for a little help with replacing my gasket on the cowl vent. I have looked at most manuals but am unable to put my finger on an exact diagram/picture for the proper orientation of the gasket on the vent.

Any help appreciated.

I used a gasket from a 5 gallon pickle bucket, glued it in, as I recall, it was a might too long, trimmed a few inches off it.

Midwest Military has the proper size gasket. Use 3M black weather strip adhesive to secure it in place.

Thanks folks, I have a proper Midwest gasket but there is not enough left of the original one to copy the install. Basically, does it glue to the opening or to the actual vent door. I see remnants of the material on both the opening and the door.

Mine is glued to the opening-I recall it has a recessed channel that the gasket settles into.

When I put in a new gasket/seal, found it best to be very careful with the adhesive used, because it it sticks before the gasket is fully in place, that is where the gasket is going to stay.

the gasket I got has a slight profile like a little U was cut out of a rectangle to make it square. the tail was uneven @ the u cut and I installed the long side towards the outside of the cowl. I used a adhesive prep to clean the rubber so the glue would stick. coated both pieces in trim adhesive waited then taped in place for 24h.

Will try it this way.

Got my cowl vent seal installed today, glued in with 3M adhesive, painted the front screen of the vent silver while it was out. Reinstalled unit and closes and seals well. I appreciate all the help.
